Fairmeadow Elementary Updates 10.22.21
Good afternoon Fairmeadow Families,
What an adventurous week we've had here at Fairmeadow! We celebrated, acknowledged, and participated in National Unity Day on Wednesday, October 20th. Not only were we wearing the color orange throughout the day, our wonderful PTA volunteers, SaraAnn A., Vaibhav V., Mari U., Anjali J., and Collette O, helped organize a Unity Day Tree in both our schoolyards! These trees had leaves where students wrote (or drew) in how they can show kindness, feel accepted and included. In addition to classroom Unity Day activities, during recess, our lovely librarian, Mrs. Brown, did a read-aloud with our students with a book titled, A New Day by Brad Meltzer. I've attached photos of this special day for your reference. In addition to Unity Day festivities, we had our fire alarm go off (everything is ok), Noon Sports started, and we also did an earthquake practice; all this week! Whew! Please see below for some updates:
Shake Out-Our classrooms participated in the annual city-wide shake out program on Thursday, October 21st, where we practiced how to safely drop, cover, and hold in classrooms. Good luck to our Firebirds who've submitted an entry for the photo/video contest about earthquake preparedness with the City of Palo Alto.
ELPAC- Thank you to the parents who attended our ELAC meeting with Melissa Hinkle, Claudia Quiroga, and Andrea Saxerud last Monday. We had a really great turn out with many parents logging in to see what supports are available for our English Learners here at Fairmeadow. Melissa Hinkle also sent out the presentation to all English Learner Families for reference.
School Site Council- We are in need of a few more parent volunteers to be a part of our SSC. We meet roughly once a month from 3:00-4:30 pm where we come together (on Zoom) to discuss school goals and ideas. Please join me and our team! If you are interested, please email me back ASAP. Our next meeting is on Tuesday, November 16th.
Noon Sports-If you haven't already heard from your 3rd - 5th grader about Noon Sports, feel free to ask your Firebird about it! We had a successful first week of Noon Sports (Rounders) at lunch time this week. Our students cheered on and supported all teams that played!
Covid Clinic- On Monday, October 18th, there was an email message sent to all families and staff regarding the new/updated COVID testing provider, Covid Clinic. This new change will begin on November 1st. We will have one more week of Predicine on-site testing, which I will email out on Monday.
Make-up Pictures- Please refer to the attached Make-Up day flyer if your child(ren) needs to get their school photo taken on Thursday, October 28th.
Halloween- As Halloween approaches, I'd like to share a few reminders with families in hopes to provide a different perspective on some trick-or-treaters. Please see Halloween attachment, and thank you to our lovely community for always being so kind, accepting, and patient. On Friday, October 29th, all students are welcome to bring their costumes to school. We just ask that costumes are school-appropriate, with no weapons or props please. It would also be great if students brought a bag with their name and room number written so students can place their costumes in afterwards. Weather permitting, we will have an outdoor parade with just students and staff.
Fundraiser- Thank you so much to Katie G., one of our PTA parent volunteers who recently organized our very successful Dine-Out fundraiser with Mountain Mike's last week! We have another opportunity to feed your family some good food and also help our PTA raise funds for Fairmeadow. Fairmeadow is partnering with Good Eggs to raise money for our PTA for the entirety of the 2021-22 school year! Good Eggs is online grocery delivery like you've never experienced. They work directly with your favorite Bay Area producers to bring you food that's as local, fresh, organic, and ethically sourced as it gets. Good Eggs makes it easy to feed your family well with peak-quality groceries and Meal Kits from food makers whose supply chains are 100% transparent. They're the only service that offers both pantry staples and full meals, plus they let you add to your order after you've placed it-all with no subscription required. GoodEggs will give Fairmeadow PTA 5% back on all orders when the promo code "goodeggsforfairmeadow" is used. Better yet, all new customers receive $15 off their first order AND Fairmeadow receives a bonus $500 if we sign up 20 new customers!
