Fairmeadow Elementary Updates 11.12.21
Greetings Fairmeadow Families,
As we are in the midst of November and Thanksgiving is right around the corner, I'd like to encourage us all to reflect on what we can be grateful for. Starting with Veterans Day yesterday, I am certain we can all be grateful for all of our veterans and pay our respects to all those who served and sacrificed for the common good. There has been plenty of research on the practice of gratitude and how it can be good for our souls and overall mental health. I'd like to share an article (click here) that is worth reviewing and reflecting on (especially the section on ways to cultivate gratitude); I hope you find it useful.
Service to Others- Our very own Student Council members and lead teachers, Ms. Choy, Mrs. Pounders, and Mrs. Van, would like to invite Fairmeadow Families to support Second Harvest Food Bank of Silicon Valley this holiday season. Each classroom will be collecting monetary donations starting today until Wednesday, December 15th which will help provide meals to families in need. Please see this flyer (and attached) for more information. Thank you all for supporting this very important cause. For families or staff members who would prefer to submit a credit card donation, here is Fairmeadow's direct online fundraising link: https://impact.shfb.org/team/390695. This link is also provided in the information flyer mentioned above.
Hard at Work- I wanted to gently remind you that this is an extremely busy time of year for educators, especially for our Fairmeadow teachers. Our teachers are working hard day in and day out as Progress Reports will become available for parents on Friday, November 19th. Additionally, teachers are working behind the scenes with administering and scoring all of the beginning of the school year PAUSD assessments. Not to mention, parent/teacher conferences are happening during this time as well! If you could kindly give our staff/teachers at least 24 hours of response time to emails/phone voicemails, that would be greatly appreciated.
PiE Rally Days-DOUBLE Your Impact in the Challenge Grant! PAUSD is so fortunate to have the support of PiE. PiE funds many site-based programs and support for students, such as classroom aides, Spectra art, music, and counselors. DONATE or PLEDGE by November 15, and PiE will match up to $275,000! No amount is too small, so DONATE or PLEDGE TODAY: papie.org/donate/
Principal's Coffee- On Monday, November 15, 9:00-9:30 am, I would like to have open office hours with our community. I will be available to answer any questions you may have about Fairmeadow and our wonderful community. Some topics that may come up are: Accessing progress reports, California Standardized Assessments (grades 3-5), supports for students available at Fairmeadow, etc. Here is the link: https://pausd.zoom.us/j/93814484227
SSC- Our next School Site Council meeting is set for Tuesday, November 16th via Zoom, 3:00-4:30 pm. Here is the Zoom link for all those interested in attending.
Morning Drop-Off- We are seeing more and more students coming on to campus earlier than 8:00 am. It's great to see so many students eager to be at school, however, we do not have adult supervision until 8:00 am. Please do not have your child arrive at school earlier than 8:00 am. Also, when students arrive on to campus, they must wait for their teacher in front of/near their classroom. Play structures and playground are off limits in the morning. Thank you for your understanding.
Toys and Fidgets/Gadgets- We are seeing more toys, fidgets and gadgets at school. Please make sure those items do not come to school anymore as it is becoming a real distraction in our learning. If parents/guardians could help check backpacks, pockets, and jackets before your child leaves for school, that would be a great help.
Have a fabulous weekend ahead!
Iris Wong, Fairmeadow Principal
