Fairmeadow Elementary Updates 12.10.21

Greetings Fairmeadow Families,

We wrapped up our week-long Scholastic Book Fair today! Thank you to parents who volunteered in the bookfair throughout the week and a special shout out to Soumaya A. and Collette O., our PTA parent extraordinaires for helping to make this event possible for our students. PTA also arranged for a parent coffee this morning, and it was nice to have parents attend even though it was a bit cold. We hope the cup of coffee/hot chocolate helped to warm you up this morning! I've attached photos of the PTA coffee (thank you to Daniela V. for the beautiful and festive set up) and bookfair for your viewing pleasure. Here are some updates:

Coach Bryant- As you may recall, Coach Bryant Hicks has been hired by the district to support elementary schools with SEL, through playground games. Coach Bryant worked with Productive Plays, Playworks and the Boys and Girls Club. He comes with vast experience for supporting productive games where students can cooperatively play and have fun. Coach Bryant is going to all PAUSD elementary schools to get to know the community and the campuses and is already working with Fairmeadow students! Coach visited Fairmeadow this week and our students were delighted to join him in playing cooperative games and team building activities. The coach will return next month and continue to meet with our Firebirds throughout the remainder of the school year.

Project Cornerstone- Our most recent Project Cornerstone book is titled, "Say Something" by Peggy Moss. Thank you to all our parent volunteer readers who've worked with their classroom teacher to read this book and corresponding activity. Here are some key points from this book in hopes you can continue the conversation at home with your child(ren):

Ways to be an Upstander:

  • Help others in joining the fun. Invite someone new to play!
  • Help each other find positive things to do and say.
  • Laughing and joking with friends is fun, but laughing at a friend or someone can hurt.
  • Always get an adult if there is a problem/conflict that cannot be resolved between students.

Minimum Day- Friday, December 17th, all grades will be dismissed at 1:25 pm. Please plan your child's pick up accordingly.

Winter Break- No school from December 20-January 3, 2022.

Progress Report- Reminder, your child's progress reports are available for parent view. Please click here for instructions on how to access your child's report through Infinite Campus.

Second Harvest Food Bank- We are still in the midst of our annual community service project and will be collecting monetary donations for our Second Harvest Food Bank drive until December 15th. Please see this flyer (and attached) for more information. Thank you all for supporting this very important cause, so far we've raised over $250 and hope to reach our goal of $2,500. Remember, $1 provides two meals for families in need. If you would prefer to submit a credit card donation, here is Fairmeadow's direct online fundraising link: This link is also provided in the information flyer mentioned above.

Counseling Corner- I'd like to share the December edition of Andrea Saxerud's Counseling Corner again. It's filled with wonderful kindness activities and goal setting ideas for our students! Click here.

Have a fabulous weekend and stay warm!

Be well,
Iris Wong, Fairmeadow Principal
