Fairmeadow Updates 10.8.21
Hello Fairmeadow Community~
What a jam-packed week and day for our Firebirds! Starting with a successful Chalk the Walk yesterday, and a Walk N Roll event today. A lot of students/families participated by walking or "rolling" to school, which was evident by the decrease in car traffic this morning! I hope many of you were able to enjoy the chalked messages and drawings on your way to/from school. Thank you to those parent volunteers who helped out for this district-wide event.
I'd also like to send a huge thank you to all of the 4th-grade families who contributed to our staff luncheon today! We were yet again blown away with the spread, kind notes/posters, and the thoughtfulness put into the Friday goodness. Our amazing and supportive parent PTA coordinators and volunteers are simply fabulous; thank you for filling our buckets!
We had another Whole-School Assembly this morning where we had a mini discussion about "How to Fill Buckets" (Project Cornerstone). Students also shared personal examples of how their bucket was filled at school. We then had an informational session with our 3-5th graders about Noon Sports. Feel free to ask your 3rd-5th grader about Noon Sports! Beginning the week of October 18th, we will have an organized game of Rounders being played during lunchtime. In order for 3rd -5th-grade students to participate in this optional Noon Sports program, 3rd-5th grade-parents MUST complete the waiver: click here; it's also attached.
Please see the updates coming up!
Kinder Families Only- Monday, October 11th marks the first day of full-day kindergarten. This means kinders will be dismissed at 2:25 pm each day, except Wednesday's (dismissal at 1:25 pm). The start time remains the same; 8:15 am every day.
ELAC- Mark your calendars. You're invited to join us for our first ELAC (English Learner Advisory Committee) meeting of the year on October 18th, 9:00 am. Parents will learn about the PAUSD English Learner (EL) Program, the resources we offer to support EL students, and how you might get involved in our community. We will also talk about our Committee, meet our EL Specialists, and Student and Family Engagement Specialist. We hope you join us on Monday, October 18th at 9:00 am. Here is the meeting link.
Family Dine Out- Let's raise some dough~A great way to support Fairmeadow and to not have to think about what's for dinner would be to attend a Family Dine Out at Mountain Mike's on October 13th and 14th. Thanks to our PTA for organizing this event for us! When Fairmeadow families go to Mountain Mike's located at 3918 B Middlefield Road, Palo Alto, 30% of all pizza sales will go to our school. You must present the attached flyer upon purchase.
School Site Council (SSC)-On Tuesday, October 19th at 3:00-4:30 pm via Zoom, we will have our first SSC meeting of the year. If you are interested in becoming a member of our SSC, please email me. All other Fairmeadow parents and staff are always welcome to attend our meetings as well. I will share the Zoom link closer to the date.
Halloween Parade- On Friday, October 29th, we will have an outdoor Halloween Parade. All students are welcome to bring their costumes (including PPE face coverings) to school. We ask that all costumes be school appropriate (no weapons, excessive gore or loose props).
Winter Lodge- Our wonderful PTA is hosting and organizing an Ice-Skating event at the Winter Lodge for all Fairmeadow Families. Please check out Konstella for more information on this PTA-sponsored event!
Make-Up Picture Day- We will have a make-up picture day in our MP room on Thursday, October 28th for those who missed the original picture day or would like their photo retaken. Please see attached flyer for more information on how to get your child's picture taken that day. Retake requests must be made a minimum of 48 hours prior to October 28th for scheduling purposes. Click here for a direct link to the AP Visions retake process.
I'd like to have a gentle reminder about the importance of a consistent and early bedtime for our students. With all of the hustle and bustle of school, ensuring our students have plenty of sleep will have benefits in their learning here at school. In addition, please remember to have your child bring a snack and a labeled water bottle with them each day. We do have complimentary breakfast and hot-lunch daily as well, but are unable to provide students with snacks.
That's all for now, thank you for reading my update. I hope you have a relaxing and lovely weekend.
Iris Wong, Fairmeadow Principal
