Fairmeadow Updates 11.4.20

Greetings Fairmeadow Community~

I hope this Wednesday message finds you doing well and in great spirits with all that's going on with election results; what a close presidential race we have! On Monday, November 9th, we will welcome back our 4th and 5th graders who are in the Hybrid Model, and our 4th and 5th grade Full Distance Learners will see a change in their lunch time (11:50 AM-12:50 PM).

Here are some important updates and upcoming events for us:

Principal's Coffee: Friday, November 6th at 12:15-12:45 PM. I will host open office hours, where I will be available to answer any questions you may have about Fairmeadow. This will be an open conversation. I hope you join me with your beverage of choice. Here's the Zoom link: https://pausd.zoom.us/j/92856231579

Veteran's Day: A special thank you and shout out to all of veteran's who've served and sacrificed for us. On Wednesday, November 11th, there will be no school due to our observation of this federal holiday.

ELAC Meeting: Join Melissa Hinkle and Claudia Quiroga Cortez for our first ELAC meeting of the school year.

  • Who: Parents of English Learner students
  • What: To learn about the PAUSD English Learner Program (ELAC Meeting)
  • When: November 16th, @ 9am
  • Where: ZOOM meeting https://pausd.zoom.us/j/9911909054

Walk N Roll: Fairmeadow Elementary will have our second Walk N Roll event on November 9th! Please consider walking/biking/scootering to school if you are a hybrid family. If you are a distance learning family, please join us in giving your vehicle a break, especially on Nov. 9th and enjoy the fresh air outdoors!

What to do if the PAUSD Network is down: As you know, we experienced a network outage Monday. Our in-person classes continued on without a hitch, but the rest of us who rely on the network were stopped in our tracks. PAUSD continued to communicate/email families and staff to keep us all updated until the network was restored. There may be other times when you lose power in your neighborhood or at your home, and when possible, please let us know. Our teachers will always try to communicate with you through Schoology (if possible) and please check your email for updates. We apologize for any of the unforeseen inconveniences.

If your children are trying to connect and/or are connected and the internet stops working, have your children read, draw or take a stretch break. They can also continue working on a current story they are writing or they can start a new topic in writing, practicing what they have learned. Journaling can be very productive and helps students with practicing communicating their thoughts onto paper.

Schedules: Here are the schedules for Hybrid (in-person) school days: Fairmeadow Hybrid In-Person Schedule. Please keep in mind, 4th and 5th grade families will receive a more detailed and specific schedule from your classroom teacher prior to Monday, Nov. 9th. You can also find the schedule posted on your child's teacher's Schoology Course page. Here is a sample schedule for Full Distance

Learning and Hybrid at-home days: K-5 FDL and At-home Hybrid SAMPLE. You will also find attached the schedule for which Hybrid Cohort comes to school on Wednesdays. Please note there are some shifts in the rotation of the Wednesday schedule due to holidays. This attached schedule ensures both Hybrid Cohorts have the same number of in-person days throughout the school year.

Whole-school Assembly: On Friday, November 6th at 8:30 AM, we will have our once a month school-wide assembly on Zoom. Please have your child check Schoology for the Zoom link.

Thank you again to our amazing Fairmeadow PTA group for organizing such an exciting and fun Drive Through Halloween Parade last Friday! We had a steady flow of decorated cars patiently waiting in line for almost the whole time. Many of our students and families had some fun and scary costumes on! There were over 300 bags of treats handed out in those two hours and our students and families had a blast. Thank you for participating!

Warmly,

Iris Wong, Fairmeadow Principal
