Fairmeadow Updates 5.20.2022

Greetings Fairmeadow Community-

We are super excited for one of our yummiest and engaging Fairmeadow community gatherings TONIGHT at our International Family Night! We will have over 20 countries represented with more than 300 attendees celebrating each other's cultures, foods, and backgrounds. There will be a student-lead talent show and music among other activities tonight starting at 5:30 pm! I hope to see you there.

This week we took some time to celebrate a few Fairmeadow parent volunteers and staff at the Palo Alto Council of PTA's Honorary Service Awards event on Wednesday, May 18th. A shout out to our honoree, Mari UT., for her work and support in coordination with Project Cornerstone, Room Parent, Staff Appreciation Coordinator, and Nominating Committee Member. Mari is always willing to lend a hand to support PTA and our Community, no matter the project or event. Another honoree recipient was Beth M. for her work and support with our school garden. Beth has gone above and beyond over the last two years, especially during COVID, to bring our Fairmeadow Garden back to life. Our garden is once again a source of pride and such a beautiful place to visit for our students and staff. Thank you to Beth for helping to get our garden officially certified as a Wildlife Habitat Garden. Our final honoree, one of our teachers, Mrs. Tsuruda, received an award for her dedication to not only her students, but to our whole school, as Mrs. Tsuruda spearheads our Chess and Checkers Clubs, Bike Rodeo, and is a co-host for our weekly Walking Club. Congratulations recipients!

We also had our last and final PTA-sponsored assembly on Wednesday, May 18th, featuring The Magic of Science. Students learned about chemistry experiments they can recreate at home, tricks to solving math problems, as well as magnetism and physics to name a few. I've attached a picture of the assembly for your viewing pleasure. Ask your child about how all of the sciences can be made to look like magic.

Below are some updates:

Staffing Update- I hope you had a chance to read last week's message from our school psychologist, Andrea Saxerud. We have an additional staffing update with our PE teacher, Mrs. Pounders. Please see attached a letter from her.

Chess Finals- We had our chess finals tournament between Shubbh in room 21 and Temujin in room 16. Congratulations to Temujin (rm 16), this year's Chess Champion!

Thanks to Shubbh (rm 21) for being a good sport and to Arjun (rm 8) for judging the game.

Special Olympics- We are thrilled to have been able to participate in the Special Olympics Track Meet at Gunn High School today! We had several of our very own Firebirds participate in this awesome program where they participated in running, jumping and throwing events.

COVID Testing Kits- PAUSD has received another round of Covid test kits. Each pack includes two test kits. Each Fairmeadow student will get 2 packs (4 kits) for you to use at home, especially if/when your child is exhibiting any symptoms. Please check your child's backpack/Friday Folder for the test kits. Instructions are provided in English and Spanish in each box.

CAASPP and ELPAC Score Reports- CAASPP and Summative ELPAC Student Score Reports (SSRs)- Now that we completed our CAASPP and Summative ELPAC assessments, I wanted to let parents know these test results are released by the testing vendor (ETS) during the summer months. SSRs become available on a rolling basis as the tests are scored. As a result, SSRs for students in the same household may not become available at the same time. Parent/Guardian directions to access SSRs are available with the following link.
