Fairmeadow Updates 9.30.20

Hello Fairmeadow Community,

I cannot believe tomorrow is already October! I'd like to start off this week's updates with an official warm welcome and introduction of Patricia (Patty) Sakuma in her new role as our clerk. Mrs. Sakuma is a familiar name and face to many of us, as she has been with Fairmeadow for almost ten years. She was previously one of our fabulous instructional aides as well as yard duty supervisors. We are so lucky to have Patty as our clerk since she is already familiar with Fairmeadow students, families, and community. I know you will all join me in saying hello and congratulating Mrs. Sakuma in her new role.

Here are this week's updates:

Survey- The kindergarten and first grade parent surveys were due today, Sept. 30th at 5:00 PM. Parents of K/1 all received a personalized email with the survey link to complete. As noted in last evenings board meeting, for parents who do not complete the survey, the default choice will be distance learning. Other grade levels (2nd through 5th) will be emailed with the survey in the upcoming days.

Art- Thank you so much for your generous donations to PiE (Partners in Education) in order to make it possible for us to continue to provide our students with art lessons. The first art lesson has been shared with teachers for students to access at home-asynchronously. We would love it if you shared your child's finished product with your child's teacher!

Hispanic Heritage Month- September 15th marked the start of Hispanic Heritage Month. While the Office of Equity and Student Affairs and the PAUSD Board of Education strives to honor and celebrate all cultures and all identities every day, we would like to pay respect and homage to the essential contributions made by Hispanic Americans. The 2020 theme for National Hispanic Heritage Month is, "Hispanics: Be Proud of Your Past and Embrace Your Future." As we strive to build a community, a nation, a world where all cultures are represented equally in our curriculum and our history, we will find every opportunity to celebrate different cultures. For parents and community members looking for lessons and activities that celebrate and explore the Hispanic culture, Go to and select the appropriate grade level.

Whole School Assembly- We will have our whole-school assembly this Friday, Oct. 2nd promptly at 8:30 AM. For the Zoom link, please check your child's teacher's Schoology page. At the conclusion of the assembly (8:50AM) your child will need to sign in to their teacher's usual Zoom link.

As always, please feel free to reach out to me if you have any questions.

Take care,

Iris Wong, Fairmeadow Principal
