Message From Principal Wong

December 2, 2019

Dear Fairmeadow Families,

I truly hope everyone’s Thanksgiving Break was a peaceful and joyous one. My family and I stayed at home for the majority of the week. We were able to catch up with a few household chores and wellness doctor and dentist appointments for the kids. We also had an opportunity to reflect about all we have to be thankful for as we watched and listened to the first rainfall on Tuesday evening. I am thankful for health, happiness, family, and our precious time we have with one another. I am thankful for our caring and kind Fairmeadow students and supportive parent community. I am thankful for the opportunity to work with such a collaborative and hardworking team of educators here at Fairmeadow Elementary. Fairmeadow is truly a wonderful place to be!

Our Noon Sports fall season concludes this week (depending on the weather forecast), as we had over 150 students participate in Rounders this season. We will have a coaches celebratory pizza luncheon in a few weeks. Invitations will be handed out to all 5th grade Rounders Coaches as a “thank you” for their teamwork and coaching support. A very special thank you shout out goes to our dedicated team of teacher mentors Christina Bonzani, Kachina Corti, Chris Easton, and Kristi Van. Noon Sports would not be possible without their commitment to our students during lunchtime over the past few months.

Student Council will launch their annual community event supporting Second Harvest Food Bank, in which we will collect canned foods throughout the month of December. Please remember to check expiration dates and make sure there are no glass containers/jars.

Our annual school Scholastic Book Fair is coming! Our PTA parent volunteers have been hard at work in setting up our MP room for the Fair. Starting on Monday, December 2nd, our MP room will be open for students to purchase books in which proceeds will support Fairmeadow.

On Wednesday, November 20th we had our annual Run, Hide, Fight Drill supported by our SROs/Palo Alto Police Department and district office. Students and staff did a fantastic job as they followed protocols. We all practiced keeping each other safe if an ‘unwelcome and unsafe situation’ were to occur at our school.

With the cold and rainy weather upon us, we want to make sure everyone stays healthy and in school. Did you know that the number one defense against germs is good old fashion hand washing? This is a good time to remind your child(ren) to always wash their hands with soap and water before and after eating. I remind my son to sing the ABCs (in a normal speed) when he washes his hands. If your child is not feeling well and has a fever, please keep them home until they are fever-free for 24 hours, and please let the front office and classroom teacher know if your child will be absent.

Warm Regards,
Iris Wong
Principal
